12 minute film, projection.
YouTube has created a space where anyone can become a public figure of their own accord. In this project, through curating and cropping footage downloaded from popular vlogging channels, the forgotten characters in the background, unacknowledged and uncompensated for their roles and exposure to millions of views have been refocused to become the protagonists.
YouTube videos can be viewed anywhere, at any time, by anyone; in private homes, in different countries, on televisions or on phones. This is explored in the project, by screening the film in two different locations; a gallery space and an indoor arena.
When you post content about or of yourself online you never know where it will end up. This also applies when others make the choice for you. Vloggers film with the world as their set and their neighbours as their extras.
